Hurricane Isaias: Tourists Ordered Out, Airports Closing
Hurricane Isaias has Alabama ordering every tourist out of Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Dauphin Island, and two Florida airports in its path are shutting down. Plus: the Riyadh airport attack, the dentist who kept the Flydubai captain alive, and a DOT rule that could cost you a hotel room.
As of Friday morning (NHC Discussion #11, 4 AM CDT), Isaias is a Category 2 with winds near 110 mph and could briefly become a major hurricane later Friday; best forecast is high-end Cat 2 at landfall. Landfall is still expected late Friday or early Saturday between Mobile and Destin. Thursday's two attacks on Riyadh's King Khalid airport killed three people, including a Saudia captain (GACA/Saudia); earlier strikes on Riyadh and Abha this week killed three and injured thirty-six. Conditions are changing fast, so check NHC and your airline before you go.
