easyJet Strike Portugal: 443 Flights Cancelled

easyJet strike in Portugal: easyJet cabin crew at Lisbon, Porto and Faro are on strike Oct. 2–6, 2026, and the SNPVAC union says 443 flights were cancelled, roughly 80% of easyJet's Portugal-based flights over the five days. By Oct. 5 the union said cancellations could reach about 90%. easyJet says it expects to operate around 55% of its scheduled flights, using legally required minimum services plus crews and aircraft from other European bases, and that it is fully compliant with the law. The union says crews from France were brought into Porto to replace strikers, calls that illegal strikebreaking, and has filed a complaint with Portugal's labor inspectorate (ACT). easyJet disputes it. A second strike is already set for Dec. 19–23.

Flying easyJet to or from Portugal? Under EU261, a strike by an airline's own staff is usually NOT treated as an "extraordinary circumstance" (EU Court of Justice, case C-28/20). So if your flight was cancelled with less than 14 days' notice, you may be able to claim compensation: €250, €400 or €600 depending on flight distance (most easyJet Portugal routes fall in the €250–€400 range). This is the typical rule, not a guarantee. It depends on your notice, distance and any rerouting offered, so check your case with easyJet or your national enforcement body.
